Northeast India is considered a biodiversity hotspot and has rich traditional knowledge. However, due to rapid development, this relationship between humans and biodiversity is slowly fading. There is a slow-growing sense to conserve nature for tourism; however, there is a distant relationship between humans and the other species we share our spaces with. Therefore, we propose a Biodiversity Citizen Science project in Northeast India to enhance comprehensive biodiversity monitoring and data collection through public and community engagement. The primary objectives include cultivating observational skills and fostering environmental stewardship by means of various engaging contests and nature walks that connect participants with their local ecosystems. By documenting biodiversity and generating knowledge products, the project aims to establish ecotourism prospects that support the local community and promote awareness of biodiversity.
Promote the Biodiversity Citizen Science in Northeast India
Through collaborative efforts, we aim to empower community members to become citizen scientists, creating a stronger foundation for conservation and sustainable practices in the area.
