Md. Rafikul Islam is an Agriculturist, Science activist, and writer. He obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s in Agricultural Botany from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. By profession, he works for the Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh. He specializes in Plant Biology, Crop Pest Diagnosis, Surveillance and Monitoring, and Pest Risk Analysis, with a focus on plant health and biosecurity. He is a science activist, serving as Assistant Coach of the Bangladesh Biology Olympiad. Additionally, he is a science writer, having translated Campbell Biology (Biochemistry Unit) and What a Plant Thinks into Bengali, and authored an Algebra book. In 2007, he became the first Bangladeshi to experience weightlessness in space, organized by the World Space Week Association.
