WASTE TO TASTE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Our town, Bansalan, proudly holds the title of "GREEN TOWN". It is the home of the world- famous Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) developed by the Mindanao Baptist Rural Life Center (MBRLC). Over the past four decades, this sustainable farming technology has been widely adopted in our provinces, earning it a reputable model status throughout the Philippines. The implementation of SALT has significantly improved the productivity of farmers in our area. However, it has also led to an unintended consequence - an oversupply of fruits and vegetables during every harvest season which then becomes a serious problem. It not only turns the products into waste but also leads to low prices in the market, and many farmers struggle to recoup their capital investments even after months of waiting. As OMLAS leaders, this real and alarming problem has captured our attention. With the collective efforts and the intentional spirit of our OMLAS team, guided by our core values of PURITY, PASSION, POSITIVISM, PATIENCE, and PRAGMATISM (5Ps), we are committed to finding a solution. We have come up with an innovative approach to tackle this issue - making vegetable chips. By processing the excess produce into Flavorful, Healthy, and Quality Vegetable chips, we can put an end to the wastage that our local farmers have been tackling for so long. This transformation will not only prevent food wastage but also provide a sustainable way for our farmers to celebrate during the harvest season, boosting their confidence and generating profits for long-term sustainability. Through this project, we aim to bring about positive change in our community and support our local farmers in their journey towards prosperity.
